Corel Painter 2021 will finally tame the popular messy UI of digital painting software and add much needed performance improvements through GPU support. Corel Painter 2021 is now available and after last year’s version – called Painter 2020 – Dark UI theme and performance enhancements have been introduced, and it looks like Corel has decided to focus again on making the user experience crucial.

This year’s version – named next year – brings better brush selection, a revised property bar, universal color selection and color harmonies and a really big deal: GPU acceleration.
How To Use The Brush Accelerator Of Corel Painter 2021
Acceleration Engine can be accessed from the Welcome screen, Preferences> Performance – as well as for each brush in the Advanced Brush Controls. It will run the first time you open Painter after you upgrade to 2021 – however after upgrading any hardware, OS or graphics driver you have installed it is worth re-running them if they positively or negatively affect performance.
First, make sure you are closing other running apps, now optimize. Painter runs a script that produces a larger, newer document and generates a set of brush strokes using a larger brush, allowing Painter to test your system. After the test is completed, you will be presented with a demonstration that tells you how your machine works.
Taming the Painter’s UI
Painter’s interface has always been an issue for artists due to its many brush options – and with each new version, Corel Painter has sought to streamline and enhance the user experience while maintaining access to controls. 2021 is no exception and here Corel has made some changes that are really useful – although some past versions have actually made things worse.
First, the Property Bar now categorizes instrument options into related categories: stroke, size, opacity, grain, media, and the like. Everything is a little easier to understand and more importantly the improvements mean more options and flyouts are available directly from the Property Bar (below).
This means less screen space is taken up by palettes and palette drawers, you do not need much time. These flyouts have related features.
Less advanced controls – but that’s a good thing
The Advanced Brush Controls Palette also has integrity: the Advanced Brush Control Palette feels more compact as the new Property Bar displays more options.
Add a new mirror shape and media section to the property bar. This section toggles the relevant controls in the Advanced Controls Palette. The Property Bar also has a New Stroke Options button, where you can find features that modify brush strokes such as Mirror Painting, Perspective Grids and Align-to-Path.
In addition to GPU support, another area of great concern is color selection tools. Painter’s color wheel is now integrated throughout the application – fill and shape tools now include wheels, sliders and switches similar to the color palette. The main color selection is now divided to show the current and previous color. This is really useful for making small adjustments to color selection.

Color ramp sliders are now in color – making them more understandable. Sliders are RGB by default but similar to most users, but it is a good idea to change the mode to HSV. There’s a new compact color palette that takes up less space than the default color palette – but there are also options to turn off bits of colors you don’t need.
